The Emerging Technologies Librarian is a full-time position. The person holding this position, based at our newly constructed (2019) East Forest Park Branch Library, will be responsible for providing reference and information services to the public, as well as responsible for Makerspace tools and services and training in their use. They will promote awareness of new and emerging technologies to improve the patron experience, library services, and programming. Work is performed in accordance with accepted practices and procedures in the field of library sciences related to reference and resource material with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent professional judgment under the general direction of the Manager who reviews work through observation, reports, and conferences. Ability to demonstrate vision, strategic thinking, collaboration and inclusive leadership skills, flexibility and adaptability and a willingness to embrace and drive change. Ability to work nights and weekends. Bilingual abilities desirable (English and Spanish, Arabic, Somali, Russian, Vietnamese, or ASL).  MLS from an ALA-accredited institution required. The Programming and Training Librarian is a full-time position. The person holding this position, based at our historic Central Library, will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of adult programming for the Central Library and for coordinating professional development for all library staff, as well as providing library services including reference, collection development, instruction, electronic resource use, reader’s advisory, outreach, and programming. Work is performed in accordance with accepted practices and procedures in the field of library sciences related to reference and resource material with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent professional judgment under the general direction of the Manager of Adult and Youth Information Services who reviews work through observation, reports, and conferences. Ability to work nights and weekends. Bilingual abilities desirable (English and Spanish, Arabic, Somali, Russian, Vietnamese, or ASL).  MLS from an ALA-accredited institution required. The annual salary is $55,756. Apply at https://bit.ly/PrgTrngJuly2021 . 

The Reference Librarian is a part-time position with a Teen Services focus. The person holding this position, based at our newly constructed (2019) East Forest Park Branch Library, will be responsible for providing reference and resource information and material and programs to the general public for the City of Springfield’s Library Department. They will also be responsible for assisting patrons to find and use library materials or provide referral to other sources and for creating and delivering programs for people of all ages, but with an emphasis on teens.  Work is performed in accordance with accepted practices and procedures in the field of library sciences related to reference and resource material with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent professional judgment under the general direction of the Branch Manager who reviews work through observation, reports, and conferences.  Qualifications include: Thorough knowledge of information provision theory and practice. Specialized knowledge of various groups’ reading interests. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that accommodate a diverse population of users and learners. Enjoyment from working with families, teens, and adults in a learning setting. Creative problem solving skills. Ability to work nights and weekends. Bilingual abilities desirable (English and Spanish, Arabic, Somali, Russian, Vietnamese, or ASL).  MLS from an ALA-accredited institution preferred; current enrollees in an MLS-granting program may be considered as well. The salary is $24,935 for 18.5 hours a week.
